Jaquet Droz Eclipse Onyx [Baselworld 2012]

There’s something about this Eclipse Onyx that makes me feel really sleepy every time I look at it.

Zzzzz.

It’s not that it’s boring, not at all – I love the moon-phase reveal disk and the slightly pissed-off man in the moon behind it – it’s that it’s really really .. zzzz .. calming?

Let’s get to the details before I drop off again.

This is a 43mm piece, in stainless steel.

It has a sapphire crystal and water resistance to a ‘do-not-go-diving-in-this’ 30 meters.

Movement is the automatic Jaquet Droz caliber 6553L2. This features 26 jewels, 28,800 vbh and a 68 hour power reserve.

As the name implies, the dial is black onyx.

Goodnight all! zzzzzz

Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Art Deco

[Press Release] These three new Petite Heure Minute models are simple, yet ultra-sophisticated, and revive the tremendous creativity of the Art Deco style. Made of red or white gold, with or without diamonds, the wasp-waisted bezel encloses a mother-of-pearl dial, sculpted by means of the “Ramolayé” technique, used here for the first time

Each mother-of-pearl dial with its unique moiré pattern is carefully cut out following the dictates of custom and practice, then painstakingly engraved, like a cameo. The material is extremely fragile, requiring an infinitely delicate touch that alone can bring out the richness of ornamental motifs, as if on an artist’s canvas.

There is something subtly feminine about this exercise: taking advantage of the thickness of mother-of-pearl, which is hollow in places, to create rounded motifs with a sensuous luminosity, write precious poetry with these thin layers and generate an interplay of light and shade as a background for the projection of one’s dreams, aspirations and secrets. Each of these exclusive Art Deco models is issued in a Numerus Clausus edition, limited to 88 pieces each.

Technical Specifications

Case: 18-carat red or white gold set with or without diamonds, 39 mm diameter, individual limited serial number engraved on the case-back

Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute For Only Watch 2011

[Press Release] For the Only Watch 2011 charity auction, Jaquet Droz will be unveiling a unique Petite Heure Minute model while lending its support to research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, led by the Monegasque Association against Myopathies.

At the auction, under the high patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and jointly organized with the Antiquorum auction house, more than 40 fabulous timepieces donated by the most prestigious watch manufacturers will be put up for bidding. This collection will also make a world tour during the year to appeal to the international community of collectors, with stops in Shanghai, Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo, and Geneva.

The Jaquet Droz philosophy of time has always been animated by a spirit of exclusiveness permeated with generosity. This year, the Manufacture from La Chaux-de-Fonds will be supporting Only Watch by donating a one-of-a-kind Petite Heure Minute model created especially for the occasion. This exclusive piece proudly boasts an ivory Grand Feu enameled dial adorned with details from one of the principality’s most renowned landscapes, a marvelous specimen of the art of miniature painting on enamel. In choosing to apply this painstaking technique, Jaquet Droz wished to honor an ancestral art with a 21st-century interpretation of the traditions practiced by its founder. It takes a master artisan at least a week, with one eye to the microscope, to finish one of these entirely hand-crafted masterpieces.

In addition, this Petite Heure Minute features a self-winding mechanical movement, a double barrel, a 68-hour power reserve with a 22-carat white gold oscillating weight bearing a sunray motif executed by the skilled hand of a master engraver, and a Jaquet Droz’ secret signature. Water-resistant to 30 meters, this superlative model comes in a 43mm case done in 18kt rose gold.

Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Quantième

Just trying to catch up with a reasonable back-log of press releases.

Here’s another one from Jaquet Droz :-)

[Press Release]

With its striking aesthetics and sleek, avant-garde design, the Grande Seconde has been celebrating the magic of time in its most infinitesimal fractions since the 18th century. This providential model, a creation of the Manufacture Jaquet Droz, is unanimously recognized as one of the most astonishing timepieces in watchmaking history.

Available in several jewelry versions and reinterpreted in the SW version, the Grande Seconde has always been presented in a case of precious metal or ceramic. Today, this magnificent watch is ushering in yet another innovation: it has been made of steel, a material suggesting strength, nobility and simplicity.

True to its avant-garde spirit, Jaquet Droz has taken a whole new approach to the design of the Grande Seconde, using an exclusive process to obtain two new models featuring all-black dials. Applied to watchmaking for the very first time, this process involves crafting all of the dial components from solid metal, then dipping them in a chemical bath to obtain a perfect black coating. This extremely painstaking operation brings out the beauty of the indicators, which can have a fine-brushed finish, creating a unique interplay of light and textures.

On each of the three versions, the date is indicated by a hand positioned discreetly at six o’clock. Its elegantly tapered shape complements the distinctive look of the Roman and Arabic numerals, as well as the equilibrium of the graphic design, which has not changed in three hundred years. Perfectly proportioned, the Grande Seconde Quantième brings about an astonishing encounter between materials and light as the gleam of the metal and chromatic uniformity of the dial engage in stunningly subtle dialogue. True connoisseurs of Haute Horlogerie will instantly recognize these historic circular shapes, reinterpreted here with only one objective in mind: to express the spirit of modernity.

For its third model, Jaquet Droz has given the Grande Seconde Quantième a look of great purity with a silvery-white dial. The traditional expertise used to apply the ring to the dial is the hallmark of the Manufacture.
