The DS Action Diver from Certina is a 45mm piece in stainless steel.
It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 200 meters. Powered by the automatic ETA caliber Valjoux 7753.
I quite like the Certina Multi-8: it appeals to the inner geek.
This ‘All Black’ version is a step-up IMHO – with its black PVD stainless case, black face and ‘carbon-esque’ black strap.
It’s a 42mm piece with a sapphire crystal and water resistance to 100 meters.
Movement is a quartz (ETA caliber E49.351) which might not appeal to all, but the price is a manageable $850 – give or take discounts.
Digital functions include: T1 and T2 time zones, including alarms; acoustic and vibro warning; timer with the same warnings; day, date, calendar week, month, year and chronograph with lap time and memory.
Back in 1960 Certina showed off the durability of the original DS-1 by taking one on a trip to the top of Mount Dhaulagiri in the Himalayas.
The adventure was designed to highlight the shock-resistant assembly, reinforced case and sapphire crystal and the hermetic seals on the stem, crown and case.
Fast forward to 2011 and the latest DS-1 shares the same features in its 39mm stainless steel case.
It also has an AR-coated sapphire crystal, a display back, and is water resistant to 100 meters.
Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2824-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 40 hours.
No word on which mountain this one might be heading to the top of!

This is a nice new piece from Certina – the DS Multi-8.
Shame I can’t say the same about the press release that went with this – which was the biggest load of overblown nonsense, even by the standards of most other overblown watch press releases.
