Rado R-One

I’m not sure what’s going on at Rado, but it’s as if someone there has said ‘you know what we don’t have to make all our watches boring and black.  Let’s funky things up a bit!’

Recent results have therefore been rather good.  Witness this limited edition (300 piece) R-One as a prime example.

It’s a 34mm piece in black ceramic and titanium.  There’s an AR-coated sapphire crystal and water resistance to 50 meters.

Inside you’ll find an automatic ETA caliber 2094 movement, with 33 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 37 hours.

The strap is rubber with a titanium buckle.

Pretty good, no?

Rado D-Star 200

If I mention Rado what are the first thoughts that pop into your head?

All black?

Thin?

Boring?

Thankfully the new D-Star 200 dive watches are none of the above (ok, maybe ‘nearly all black’ is an option!).

Available in chronograph and non-chrono options these 42-44 models come in a steel case.

You get a ceramic bezel and an automatic Swiss ETA movement (an ETA 2824 for the non-chrono, and a modified Valjoux 7753 for the chrono).

Both models feature a cyclops date (still not a fan of that one) and an exhibition caseback.

I still don’t know that I’d go for a Rado – even though these are far better than their legacy design (IMHO of course).

What do you think?

Rado D-Star Automatic

I don’t really do ‘thin’ watches – or thin anything if you’ve been unfortunate enough to see my belly – hence Rado aren’t normally on my list of desired models.

I have to say though that this (non-thin) D-Star Automatic is growing on me somewhat.

It’s still not a massive watch at 42mm but it is a full 10mm thicker than Rado’s ‘True Thinline‘ and (IMHO), all the better for it.

The case is polished black ceramic and the caseback is carbon-diffused stainless steel with a curved sapphire crystal.   The watch is water resistant to 100 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2824-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.

The bracelet is black polished ceramic with a titanium 3-fold buckle.

Rado True Thinline

With due apologies to Rado, I’ve always been a bit ‘meh’ about their super-thin watches.

Just not my style I guess.

And so, on that note, I present to you the side-view only of the World’s slimmest ceramic watch from the aforementioned manufacturer :-)

Thin ‘innit?
