Back in the day – 1978 to be exact - Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (yep, him) created a watch/compass: the WompAss.
Ok, so the last part of that statement may not be entirely true, but the watch definitely was and now 33 years later Porsche Design have issued a homage in the form of the P6520.
The P 6520 Compass Watch comes in two parts: the upper part is a three-hand watch. The lower part of the watch opens to reveal a liquid compass that can be easily removed. The watch is available with a compass for both the Northern as well as the Southern hemisphere. In order to find one’s bearings with this instrument, a scratch-resistant mirror has been installed on the rear of the watch part and on top of the compass. When opened, the two mirrors click into place at 45 degrees.
42mm in size, the case is black PVD titanium. The crystal is AR-coated sapphire and the watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
Movement is the Swiss automatic Sellita caliber SW300 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours.
Love it!
