MB&F HM4 For Only Watch 2011

Published by in MB&F on June 2nd, 2011 | 2 Comments »

The annual ‘Only Watch‘ auction is not just an event to raise a lot of money for a worthy charitable cause – kid’s muscular dystrophy - it also gives us the chance to see some fantastic one-of-a-kind models from the world’s hottest watch manufacturers.

One of the participants returning with an offering for this year is MB&F.

MB&F aren’t exactly known for their ‘standard’ watches as it is, but this unique HM4 for Only Watch features a Huang Hankang designed 18K white gold panda riding astride the case; like some sort of bizarre Star Wars / wildlife mashup.

This little guy is detachable, which will still leave you with a fully-featured HM4 – blessed with the signature of the aforementioned artist, Huang.

Like many of the watches for Only Watch – and we’ll feature more over the course of the next few days or so – this is probably more a display piece than something you’d ever consider wearing regularly, and no doubt the price this is likely to go for will reinforce that.

Nevertheless, what a fantastic fun addition to an already crazy timepiece!

MB&F HM3 Frog Zr

Published by in MB&F on May 10th, 2011 | No Comments »

Feeling flush?

Federal Budget left you with a bit of spare loose change?*

(*Australian residents only ..).

Found a bit of coinage down the back of the couch?

This one’s for yo ….sorry …. hold on…..  yes? …. ahh, I see ….

*cough*

Err, yes, you might need a bit more than the contents of your penny jar for this one.

At $92,000 and limited to just 18 pieces, the MB&F HM3 Zr (Zirconium) – aka the ‘Black Frog’ – is strictly for the special crowd (that’s you and me out then!).

The aforementioned zirconium case is coated black and the 22k gold automatic rotor carries an unusual but certainly striking purple colour.

I have to confess, and it might be heretical to say, but whilst MB&F watches are truly original and fantastic pieces, I’m actually not a real big fan of the design – original though it most certainly it.

What do you think?

Love the HM3′s or hate them?

MB&F HM3 ReBel

Published by in MB&F on March 5th, 2011 | No Comments »

The crazy dudes and dudettes at MB&F have done it again.

The HM3 ReBel (R for Right Hand, B for Black Case) is designed to be worn on the right hand.

Under its black PVD-treated white gold case – charcoal-coloured movement plates and bridges form a darkened backdrop to the resplendent flash of the 22K rotor as it speeds by.

The ReBel’s twin cones ergonomically indicate the hours and minutes, with the hour cone capped by a day/night indicator. The top caps of the truncated cones are brazed to ensure maximum water-resistance and the red “hands” of the hour and minute indicators are cut by laser to obtain the incredibly high precision/minimum mass ratio the design necessitates.

White gold clover-head screws on top of the black case resemble rivets in an upmarket biker’s leather jacket (so say MB&F anyway!), while the large, legible numbers of the over-sized date wheel around the rotor enable the date to be read off easily against a neat, engraved triangle on the case.

The rotor and oscillating balance on top provide a clue that the ReBel’s movement, featuring no less than 36 functional jewels and 304 components, is actually inverted.

Turning the Machine over reveals the technical secret behind the powerful and superbly hand-finished engine: two large-diameter, high-tech ceramic bearings racing inside bright blue cages efficiently transmitting power up to the time indication cones and date wheel.

HM3 ReBel comes in a limited edition of 18 pieces in black PVD-treated white gold, blackened movement and 22K gold rotor.

You really don’t want to be asking about the price!
