Schofield are a new watch manufacturer out of the UK and this is their stormingly strong debut: the Signalman GMT PR.
A ‘signalman’ might invoke an image of somebody who works on the railways.
In fact, the watch is a nod to those who worked in a lighthouse (I thought was a ‘lighthouse keeper’, but what do I know?!).
The caseback is engraved to that effect and the power reserve (which I love) is meant to represent the beams of a lighthouse lamp.
The watch is 44mm in size and available in either steel (with polished bezel – 300 pieces) or black DLC coated steel (100 pieces).
In addition to a tiny date display at 3 O’Clock, there’s a GMT sub-dial at six o’clock.
The sapphire crystal covering the two-level dial is domed and extra-thick providing some magnification to the whole display.
Movement is a Swiss Soprod 9335 movement with 31 jewels and 42 hours of power reserve. It runs at 28800 bph (4hz).
Water resistance is to an impressive 500m.
The watch comes shod with a black shark-skin strap lined with green calf-skin.
Finally, each model is presented in a wooden marine chronometer-styled box with a brass tool for adjusting the GMT dial.
Very cool!
This is a really great debut piece (two pieces I guess) and at around $3000 very keenly priced to boot.
Sorely tempted … ;-)
