Artya Bye Bye Euro

Should Merkel, Sarkozy and the rest of the EU gang be searching for the perfect farewell gift for the hapless Papandreou they might like to consider this suitably nasty Artya ‘Bye Bye Euro’ watch.

Of course, with the state of European finances and with the watch costing approximately $6000, they might be forced to stick to a Chinese carriage-clock.

Filled with ripped up Euros, this Artya special also has a case that’s been subject to electric-shocks.

Probably rather like most EU leaders are feeling right now.

Here’s what Artya themselves have to say about this .. fun .. piece.

“The creative Brand ArtyA launches a tribute to “the sommet de Bruxelles
2011” to announce the end of the Euro currency. This unique Watch called “Bye Bye Euro” has a hand manufactured dial using real Euros passed in a shredder, the case as well has gone through an exclusive crushing process in the ArtyA Art & Workshop in Geneva, Switzerland. The ArtyA 1/1 “Bye Bye Euro” is powered by a high end Swiss automatic movement and the strap is braided kevlar to better absorb shocks. Sarkozy, Berlusconi, Papandreou and Merkel are invited to buy one in order to remember their dreams.”

ArtyA Son Of A Gun

I’m sure I’ll be shot at dawn by the Watchmakers Guild for saying this (pun intended), but let me get this out straight away: I really, really do not like this watch.

Yes, I know it’s unique and I know it’s part watch, part ‘art’, and I can appreciate the skill that goes into making something like this but to me this just screams ‘all money, no class’.

Sorry.

There, I’ve said it :-)

Anyway, it is a one-off piece (1/1) and was specially made by Mr ArtyA (Yvan Arpa) for a gun/watch collector.

It features real bullets – six 6mm Flobert bullets to be exact – suspended within the case.

The copper wire is meant to signify dynamite wire.

The pun here is meant to be that bullets don’t kill, time does.

I think I’d rather somewhere threw their watch at me than bullets, wouldn’t you?

Moving swiftly on .. please stick to butterflies next time Mr ArtyA!

Artya Farfalla Collection

Are you a fan of lepidopterology?  Of course! I mean, who isn’t?  Hmm .. ok, well most of us mere mortals might not be quite so familiar with the art of collecting and mounting exotic insescts, but Artya certainly seem to be.

The new Farfalla collection – to be officially presented at the GTE 2011 in Geneva – celebrates bug bagging in all its colourful glory.

In their interpretation, Artya chose just the wings from various species of butterfly (yes, really) arranged in a collage of color . Artya hand-chooses individual wings from real insects for each piece unique watch (no harm being done apparently as they are already post-mortem).

The arrangement and placement of butterfly wings on a watch dial is no simple task. Artya needed to develop a special technique for the creation of the Artya Farfalla collection – “farfalla” meaning butterfly in Italian. There is nothing obvious about the Artya Farfalla and its materials. The beauty of the concept is in its ability to remain relatively incognito. The unusual dial design does not necessarily readily announce itself as being made up of butterfly wings. This is especially true when the wings are mixed with other decorative elements such as gold leaf.

Artya Farfalla collection timepieces are each one-of-a-kind handmade creations, being housed in Artya’s “Coup de foudre” watch cases. Intended for ladies and gentlemen.
