Cartier Tank Folle

Do not adjust your set, or your glasses – the Cartier Tank Folle really does look as if it’s been run over by a truck.

Actually, that analogy is more appropriate than you might think – seeing as this watch is based on Cartier’s 1967 ‘Crash’ collection.  Legend has it that these came about following a fiery car crash involving a Cartier exec of the time.

The Dali-esque results certainly are memorable.

This new model will be made in a run of 200 pieces in 18Kt white gold.

Sizing is somewhat tricky, given the shape, but it’s relatively small at 30-34mm.  There’s a sapphire crystal – also crazily shaped – and water resistance to 30 meters.

The dial features 1.6 carats of diamonds.

Movement is the manual-wind Cartier caliber MC 8970.

Cartier Rotonde Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon

‘Chance would be a fine thing’ as my Grandparents used to say, but it would be a tough choice between this one and Cartier’s pocket-watch we featured a few days ago.

To be available in just fifty Rose Gold and fifty titanium pieces the ‘Rotonde Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon’, to use its full name, is on the way to an unveiling at next year’s SIHH event.

It’s a 45mm piece with sapphire crystals and water resistance to 30 meters.

Those are mere technical details though, and as beautiful as this is to look at from the outside, it’s what’s on the inside that is really impressive.

Check this out ..

The movement is the Swiss manual-wind Cartier in-house caliber 9402MC with 47 jewels. It bears the Geneva Seal and features two complications: a minute repeater (68 decibels) and a flying tourbillon.

Stunning!

Cartier Skeleton Pocket Watch

There may be a few months to go until SIHH 2012 opens its doors, but Cartier are already killing it with an amazing collection of pieces ready to roll-out at the annual show.

It’s hard to pick a favourite – look out for their Minute Repeater too (more on that soon) – but I’m loving this skeleton pocket watch.

I’m a big fan of the pocket watch, but it’s a shame that it’s a bit of a dead art (save for dandies and steam-punk aficionados).

Great then to see Cartier do something like this.

Based on 1930′s Cartier pocket watches, this is a really modern take on a classic.

With only 10 pieces available, this will be 59mm in size in a white gold case.

Movement is a mechanical hand-wound Calibre 9436 MC and features a number of complications: a tourbillon, a perpetual calendar and a mono-pusher chronograph movement.

If you’re not able to pull-off the foppish look with the white gold chain, this also comes with an obsidian and rock crystal stand from which you can hang the watch.

Something else to add to my shopping list when I win the mega lottery over Christmas!

Cartier Tourbillon Cadran Love

A sneak peak of the SIHH-bound Cartier Tourbillon Cadran ‘Love’.

With more of an ‘offset’ look than similar previous models, it looks fantastic – don’t you think?

It has double sapphire crystals and is water resistant to 30 meters.

Movement is the Swiss manual-wind Cartier in-house caliber 9458MC with 19 jewels, 21,600 vph and a power reserve of 50 hours.

Check out the crown, which is literally .. a crown :-)

Fan Bing Bing And Cartier At The 64th Cannes Film Festival

A tenuous watch link? Sure thing :-)

But I’m shallow enough not to need that much of an excuse to register a post featuring a ‘pretty lady’.

Here’s Fan Bing Bing wearing Cartier at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

That’s it.  The end of any real news or watch information.

Useless? Yes!

Fun?  Sure thing! :-)

Cartier Santos Dumont Black Titanium

Not sure if it’s a trend as such as there have always been examples of this, but there seem to be a lot of new watches coming out recently that are predominantly ‘dark’.

Here’s another one from Cartier, the ‘Santos Dumont Black Titanium’, which features a skeletonized, black DLC-coated titanium case.

The case is 39mm x 47mm DLC-coated titanium, with a titanium crown set with faceted black synthetic gemstone.

The hours and minutes are formed from skeletonized bridges in the shape of Roman numerals.

The watch comes on an alligator strap with a DLC-coated white gold deployant buckle.

Movement is the manual-wind Cartier Caliber 9612 MC (~72 hours power reserve).
