Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Captain’s Watch

[Press Release] Omega has created the Seamaster Aqua Terra “Captain’s Watch” in celebration of this year’s Ryder Cup. The special edition will be worn by American Ryder Cup team captain and Omgea brand ambassador Davis Love III. Love, whose twenty PGA Tour victories include the PGA Championship in 1997, has been a part of six U.S. Ryder Cup teams, winning the cup in 1993 and 1999.

Omega will be serving as Official Timekeeper of the Ryder Cup for the first time in September within the scope of its partnership with The PGA of America. The tournament, which is one of the most popular and hotly anticipated events on the golfing calendar, is a competition between teams from Europe and the United States contested every two years, alternating between American and European courses. There is no prize money involved – the best golfers in the world compete purely for the victory.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra “Captain’s Watch” has a 41.5mm brushed and polished stainless steel case with a polished bezel and double sapphire crystals. Movement is the Swiss automatic Omega exclusive Co-Axial caliber 8500 with a Si14 silicon balance spring.

The silver dial has the vertical “teak-pattern” lines that characterize the watches in the Aqua Terra collection. Brushed and polished 18kt white gold indeces mark eleven of the hours; there is a date window at 3 o’clock. The watch has distinctive facetted blue hands that are coated with Super-LumiNova, making them legible in all lighting conditions; the central seconds hand has a yellow tip.

The Omega logo on the dial and the words “CO-AXIAL CHRONOMETER” are red as are the non-numeral markers on the minute track. “Seamaster”, “150m/500ft” and the numerals on the minute track are blue. These colors against the silver background of the dial subtly recall Davis Love III’s national flag.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Skyfall

Omega’s links with James Bond needs no introduction (right?!).  Continuing this long running association comes the Planet Ocean Skyfall.  Skyfall, of course, being the name of the next Bond movie – due for release later this year.

Limited to 5007 pieces, this stainless steel version comes in an un-Planet Ocean-esque 42mm, with 600m of water resistance.

In a bit of a ‘woo, fancy’ moment, the indexes on the boxy dial glow blue, as do the hour and second hands. The minute hand glows green.

Thankfully not too much ’007′ branding, unlike previous specials, with the logo appearing at the 7 O’Clock position and on the rotor.

This can be seen round-the-back, powering the in-house co-axial calibre 8507 movement.

Available in a special presentation box, this one will set you back around 4800 Euros.

Pretty nice, but I’d like that typical Planet Ocean touch of orange back :-)

Omega Spacemaster Z-33 [Baselworld 2012]

Technically, the Spacemaster Z-33 is very impressive – transflective display and all.

I’m a bit torn on the design though.

Just a personal opinion but as much as I like cushion cases (or close variants in this case), I’m torn between ‘wow’ and ‘wow, what a dog’s breakfast’.

What do you think?

Here’s the full skinny from Omega themselves:

[Press Release] The Spacemaster Z-33’s case shape cannot be mistaken for that of any other timepiece and in the tradition of OMEGA’s great pilots’ watches, it separates its day-to-day timekeeping from its professional functions ergonomically, using state-of-the-art technology.

Designed for pilots
Floating above the digital dial is a set of analogue timekeeping hands that are adjusted by the crown at 3 o’clock. Surrounding the watch are four pushers that, along with the crown, allow full control over the array of digital features. For keeping track of the time these include date, UTC and two time zones (in 12 or 24 hour display), an alarm and a perpetual calendar. Elapsed time is measured with a chronograph function and a countdown timer. Alongside these features are self-programmable professional pilot functions to log up to ten flights and visualise those logs with date-hour indications.

High-technology case, dial and hands
Continuing the high technology feel of the watch, the modern-sized case is manufactured from grade 5 titanium, and features brushed, polished and sandblasted highlights, reminiscent of OMEGA’s pilot case design. The caseback features the polished OMEGA Seahorse, the Ω symbol, the word “Speedmaster” and the watch’s serial number. The back is fixed in place with four screws and its “double wall” construction acts as a resonance chamber, thus amplifying the sound of the alarm. The Spacemaster Z-33 is fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides to provide a clear view of the display regardless of the conditions. The watch is water resistant to 3 bar / 30 metres / 100 feet.

The Spacemaster Z-33 has a non-reflective matt black dial with white OMEGA name and logo and featuring the words “Spacemaster” and “Z-33” in white. The white indexes are coated with white Super-LumiNova, as are the skeletonised hour and minute hands. The elements coated with Super-LumiNova emit a green glow in low light conditions.

The dial features two large display panels for the digital functions. These screens have black backgrounds with red digital segments and use transreflective LCD technology to provide easy reading in all light conditions.

The new design incorporates skeletonised hands to help the wearer view the digital displays below them. By simply depressing the pusher at the 8 o’clock position, the hands are disengaged to either 3 o’clock or 9 o’clock, allowing the wearer an unobstructed view of the digital information.

On your wrist in the cockpit
The Spacemaster Z-33 is supplied with a black rubber strap with the inscriptions “OMEGA” and “Speedmaster” in red. It is also available on a brown “Soft Touch” leather strap. The black rubber strap features a model-specific Titanium folding clasp (grade 5 for all the visible parts and grade 2 for the moving parts). The brown “Soft Touch” leather strap is secured to the wrist by a standard grade 5 titanium folding clasp (again with grade 2 titanium used for the moving parts of the clasp). Both clasps bear the Omega logo.

The luminosity of the digital displays is automatically regulated by their transreflective technology, which takes into account ambient light, allowing the digital data to be read as easily on night flights as in direct sunlight. This technology also helps conserve battery power. In dark conditions the Super-LumiNova provides a green glow for the analogue time measurement hands allowing them to be distinct enough not to interfere with the digital information.

A very special and highly useful additional detail that underlines the Spacemaster’s professional heritage & distinction is the fact that its digital display can be read under all conditions, even for wearers with polarized glasses.

The watch is delivered in a special presentation box which includes a detailed manual.

Respecting the past, defining the future
The OMEGA Spacemaster Z-33 carries on the traditions of robust reliability and innovation that have always defined OMEGA’s watches. Coupled with specific functions desired by professional pilots, OMEGA’s new thermo-compensated quartz calibre 5666 is particularly dedicated to them, providing them with the combination great accuracy and functionality they need in the cockpit.

With the launch of the Spacemaster Z-33, OMEGA has re-introduced a professional pilots’ watch, combining the legendary look of the past with cutting-edge watchmaking features.

It is sure to be one of the most welcomed and talked-about releases of 2012.

Omega James Bond 007 50th Anniversary Classic Seamaster

This might be heretical of me – and, yes I know it’s a 007 special – but I wish Omega didn’t plaster the dial of James Bond watches with the 007 logo.  Otherwise this is a corker.

Celebrating 50 years of Bond (yes, really!) this is a special edition of a Seamaster Diver 300m. A version of this watch has apparently been worn by James Bond in every movie since GoldenEye (some more prominent than others if lasers, garrots and magnets are your thing!).

The watch will be available in two sizes: 41 mm and 36.25 mm in stainless steel with ceramic bezel rings.

Each model wears a brushed and polished screw-and-pin stainless steel bracelet.

The lacquered black dial features that 007 monogram (boo!). The 41 mm version has 11 applied indexes; the 36.35 mm watch has ten with a diamond index at the 7 o’clock position (diamond anniversary, see?).

The indexes are coated with white Super-LumiNova with a blue emission. There is a date window at 3 o’clock.

Both versions feature the calibre 2507 self-winding movement fitted with a Co-Axial escapement.

The watch is a certified chronometer. Its screw-in case back is stamped with a gun-barrel design.

There is a “bullet” decoration fixed on the rotor that can be viewed through a central sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating inside. The watch also has a unidirectional rotating bezel.

It also features a helium escape – handy when you’re diving to 300m.

The 41 mm version is being produced in a limited edition of 11’007 pieces and the 36.25 mm version in a limited edition of 3’007 pieces.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT

Meet the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT.

Powered by the calibre 8605/8615 movement, this is the first of Omega’s in-house movements to be equipped with a GMT complication.

In a 43mm steel, red gold or gold/steel case, as well as the aforementioned GMT hand (with snazzy red tip) you get a date window and leather strap.

Price is TBA.

Rather good, don’t you reckon?

Omega iPad Cover

I guess this is reasonably subtle, but probably still something for hardcore Omega fans all the same: the Omega iPad cover.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf

Shades of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas in this Omega Golf model, don’t you think?

Launched to celebrate a deeper foray into the golf world, this is a 41.5mm model in stainless steel.

It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 150 meters.

The black dial has green elements, and the indices are 18kt white gold.

Inside you’ll find the Swiss automatic Omega caliber Co-Axial 8500.

Apparently this is the first practical (note the qualifier) new watch escapement to be introduced in some 250 years; one benefit of which is a much longer period between services than prior movements.

Omega guarantees the timepiece for four years.

MSRP is $4,600.

Available in the U.S (no word on other countries yet) from November 2011.

Omega iPhone App

Omega have released an iPhone / iPad app, available now on the iTunes Store.

In addition to information about Omega models, details of Omega outlets and wallpapers of ‘stars’ wearing Omega watches, one of the coolest features is a watch simulation mode: featuring the latest Seamaster Planet Ocean.

You can virtually push the pushers, see the caseback and even shake the phone to watch the movement jiggle.

Very cool :-)

Omega Seamaster 1948 Co-Axial Chronometer

One year to go until the London Olympics in 2012 and Omega have released 1948 limited-edition Olympics related Co-Axial Chronometer pieces.

1948 and not 2012 pieces?

The reason for that – and the watch model name – is that the very first Omega Seamaster was launched in 1948 – also the last time that London hosted the Olympic Games.

Got that?

The 39mm case is in stainless steel. The crystal is sapphire and the watch is water resistant to 120 meters.

The caseback features an 18kt yellow gold medallion embossed with the (some say ‘controversial’) London 2012 Olympic Games logo.

The Seamaster 1948 has an opaline silver dial with a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.

It has an applied 18kt white gold vintage Omega logo and name as well as 18kt white gold Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock and hour markers at the other positions.

The watch features diamond-polished hour and minute hands and a blue steel small seconds hand.

Movement is the Swiss automatic Omega in-house 2202, an officially-certified chronometer equipped with a Co-Axial escapement on three-levels and a free sprung-balance.
