Corum iPad App

Corum have joined the other cool kids of the watch manufacturing world and released their very own iPad app.

Functionally it’s pretty much as you’d expect from an app of this type: watch details, find-a-store, Corum news, movies and simple contests.

Nothing revolutionary then, but it looks good and fans of Corum will have a blast as they drool over all the models they’re yet to be able to afford!

Find it on the Apple App Store right here.

Corum Grand Precis

Still travelling – the backlog of posts is growing longer by the minute :-)

This is the perfectly-named-for-a-watch ‘Grand Precis’ from Corum.

The name was originally used by Corum in the 1950s and in fact this limited run of new models uses updated calibre movements from that era: so-called ‘new old stock’.

100 will be made in rose gold, with another 50 available in white gold.

The size is an old-school 38.5mm featuring a more modern AR-coated sapphire crystal and sapphire display back.

Water resistance is to 30 meters.

Movement is the new-old Swiss hand-wind Corum caliber CO162 with 17 jewels, 18,000 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.

Very nice.

This limited edition of one comes fitted with a black crocodile leather strap featuring red stitching and a titanium pin buckle.

Corum Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud

Do you remember the sick-bay from the original Star Trek series?

Corum have found an ingenious way to recycle the material from that to make this, the ‘Seafender 48′..

… hold on ..

…… they didn’t?

Err, apparently my information sources might have got their wires-crossed.

How about we cross directly to Corum’s press release instead?

Might be safer!

[Press Release] To celebrate the partnership with the Bol d’Or Mirabaud presented by Corum, the watch brand is presenting an exclusive timepiece proudly bearing the event colors: the Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud. The winners of the Bol d’Or and the Bol de Vermeil will be presented with one of these 30-piece limited edition watches

Equipped with the star complication for sports watches, the chronograph function, the Bol d’Or model features a generously sized 48 mm blue case. The model is distinguished by a twelvesided bezel in the same shade, along with the nautical pennants that are a signature feature of the Admiral’s Cup collection.

Loyal to its tradition of innovation and originality, Corum has chosen to run counter to its usual practice by associating a “centro” chronograph with this model. The chronograph minutes and seconds hands, traditionally appearing on two small dedicated counters, are mounted here on the same axis as the conventional hour and minutes hands. As well as resulting in an original and extremely pared-down face for a chronograph, this approach naturally also ensures enhanced readability.

The dial, richly adorned with a Clous de Paris hobnail motif and applied gold hour-markers, is enhanced by gold hands. The watch as a whole gives subtle pride of place to the blue and golden colors of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud presented by Corum.

Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenger 44 Limited Editions

Published by in Corum on May 7th, 2011 | No Comments »

Corum are getting kind of funky with their Admiral’s Cup range for 2011.

Limited to 100 pieces each in red, white and blue, the rubber coated bodies are accompanied by vulcanised rubber coated crown and crown guard.  Hope you like rubber!

The back of each watch has a display case with a colour-coordinated rotor for the COSC Chronometer certified CO753 automatic chronograph movement..

Price is a not too crazy $8150.

What do you think?  I must confess I’m not entirely sold on them, but if you’re after a splash of colour and want more than just a cheap and cheerful watch, this might be the way to go.

Corum Ti-Bridge Power Reserve

Like an all-you-can-eat buffet at your favourite 5-star hotel, the delights of Baselworld 2011 just keep coming.

This is the fantastic Corum Ti-Bridge Power Reserve, featuring Corum’s trademark style linear movement layout.

Definitely ‘do want’, but with a limited run of 700 chances are slim to none.  And they both just left town :-)

[Press Release] The Ti- Bridge, with its distinctive titanium case and its horizontal baguette movement is held by four black PVD-coated bars, is a contemporary interpretation of the Golden Bridge spirit. Unique in the world, this understated blend of modernity and elegance features a perfect balance between design and technology. The Caliber CO107 baguette movement equipping the latest Ti-Bridge model drives the hour and minute hands as well as a power-reserve indication – a first in this collection.

This beautifully structured watch naturally called for a linear display of the latter function. To achieve this, the Caliber CO107 is fitted with a satellite gear train that is visible when observing the watch from the side along the 9-3 o’clock axis, but invisible when looking at this Ti-Bridge from the front. This module comprises several specific features, including a differential gear system composed of three wheels – one of which is an off-centered “planetary wheel”. Depending on the direction of its rotation, the latter spins either on its own axis, or around the axis of the two other wheels, thereby connecting the barrel on the one hand and the winding stem on the other to the power-reserve indicator – all within a minimum of space. Another special characteristic developed for this caliber is the power- reserve indicator mounted on a graduated sliding gear in phosphate nickel.

The choice of this material, combined with a LIGA manufacturing process (a German acronym for Lithographie, Galvaniformung, Abformung – Lithography, Electroplating and Molding) similar to electroforming, results in parts with far more precise tolerances than those achieved by classic mechanical machining. It thereby guarantees the extreme precision of the power- reserve display, which in this case amounts to a maximum of three days. In terms of the exterior, the new Ti-Bridge Power Reserve features a grade 5 titanium case and a dial in titanium. The hour and minute hands as well as the power-reserve display are coated in a luminescent substance so as to ensure perfect readability in the dark. Fitted with a rubber strap secured by a folding clasp with two security pushers, the Ti-Bridge Power Reserve is issued in a limited numbered series of 700.

This exceptional baguette movement, with its innovative construction wrote a new chapter in the history of watchmaking.

This world première of the automatic variation is presented in a red or white gold case and will be produced in limited quantities.

Few mechanical movements have had such a significant impact on horological history. The legendary Golden Bridge, first presented by Corum in 1980, has since then revealed the full measure of its powerful and enduring appeal.

This impressive baguette movement, built in a straight line and calling for exceptional watchmaking expertise, has adorned some of the most fabulous timepieces by the brand from La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 2009, the Golden Bridge baguette inspired the creation of the sophisticated and contemporary Ti-Bridge model, while 2010 saw the arrival of the first Golden Bridge tourbillon movement.
