Hamilton Ventura XXL

Fifty-five years after they released the original version, Hamilton have launched an updated limited edition of their Venture XXL.

It’s being released in conjunction with the risable Men In Black III movie, but don’t hold that against it – this 46mm piece in stainless steel is still pretty cool.

Eschewing the original’s battery power (a first for that time), this one uses an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. This partly explains the much larger size than that which Elvis made famous, back in the day.

Retail should be around the $1400 mark.

Hamilton Khaki Aviation X-Patrol [Baselworld 2012]

Getting up there in Hamilton pricing terms at 1295 Euros, this is the Khaki Aviation X-Patrol.

As the name implies, it features a number of ‘aviation’ related functions, including fuel burn.

It’s a 42mm piece, in stainless steel, with an AR-coated sapphire crystal and water resistance to 100 meters, should you require to ditch in water ;-)

Movement is a modified automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 – known here as the Hamilton caliber H21.

Straps come in stainless or leather.

Do we like this one?

Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer [Baselworld 2012]

Whilst certain ‘brand snobs’ continue to look down their noses at anything Hamilton, I happen to think they do some really interesting pieces (I’d add Ball Watches to the same bracket).

This one’s a great example – from watch to marine clock, all in one.

Made to celebrate 120 years of existence, this is a modern revival (of sorts) of Hamilton’s 1940s marine chronometer.

In case that wasn’t clear enough in watch form alone, you can take the watch off and mount it in a special box for the full boaty effect!

Not quite clock sized, but it is reasonably large at 46.5mm.

It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters.

Movement is the manual-wind ETA UNITAS 6498.

The dial is silver with velvet finish and features blued hands.

It comes wearing a stitched brown leather strap with buckle.

Only 1892 of them will be made.

No points for guessing why!

Are you a fan?

Hamilton Ventura (The Elvis Presley Edition!)

How much would you expect to pay for a Hamilton watch?

$1000-$3000 is probably in the zone, don’t you think?

Well, how does $24,000 sound?

Of course, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill-owned-by-Swatch-nice-but-not-high-end Hamilton.

No siree, this particular Hamilton is an 18K gold Ventura owned by the King himself, Elvis Presley.

Sold by one Kathy Byrnes, owner of a Maine store, to an anonymous collector, the watch was up for sale for barely a day before being snapped up.

The Tankers, one of Elvis’ first fan clubs, originally gave the watch to Elvis after he returned from military service in 1960.

The watch wound up in Byrnes’ store after being bought by a New York-based estate jeweller, who then shopped it around various U.S. jewellery shows.

Eventual proceeds from a subsequent sale will go towards a special needs children’s hospital in Massachusetts with the buyer not looking to hold onto the piece.

Just goes to show how far a bit of provenance will go, doesn’t it?!

@hamiltonwatch Khaki UTC [Video]

Did I tell you I was a huge Hamilton fan?

Despite my Khaki Diver keeping terrible time (I really should get it adjusted!), I’m sure that given a bit more free cash I’d have a few more of their models in my meagre watch collection.

One model definitely on the list is the Khaki UTC, and amazingly – purely for my own pleasure – Hamilton have made me a special video.

Oh, alright then, it’s for everyone.  I’ll share! :-)

Hamilton Conservation Auto Chronograph

Another cracker from Hamilton – love the oversize crown and pushers.

The case is in stainless steel and measures 42mm. It has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters. The dial features a vintage beige color.

Movement is the Swiss made ETA caliber H31 with 60 hours of power reserve.

The Hamilton H31 and H21 calibers are based on the chronograph Valjoux movements 7753 and 7750. Three elements have been modified: reversed or glittered spiral a longer barrel and a modified balance bridge.

Hamilton Khaki Flight Timer

My challenge with Hamilton is there are far too many of their models on my ‘would buy’ list (well, apart from their crazy lipstick watch that is) :-)

The Khaki Flight Timer definitely joins the ‘do-want’ collection though.

This watch features a digital stopwatch function, with a separate seconds display.

There is also a digital 24-hour time display in the lower half of the dial with dual-time support.

Serious flyers would have to tell me the usefulness of this one as a ‘Flight Timer’, but nonetheless, another nice piece from the Swatch stable.

Retail is around $1400.

Hamilton Khaki X Fuel Chronograph

Another great piece from one of my fave ‘affordable’ watch companies.

This is the Hamilton Khaki X Fuel.

There appears to be a conversion scale from gallons to liters (US as opposed to litres everywhere else!) on the outer and inner bezels.

The case is in stainless steel and measures 44mm x 14mm. It has a sapphire crystal, a display back and is water resistant to 100 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber Valjoux 7750 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours.

Hamilton Lipstick Ladies Watch Collection

Here’s an ‘interesting’ one from the Hamilton gang …

Ladies, what do you think?

[Press Release] Hamilton gives timekeeping a unique and refreshing twist by presenting Lipstick, a new ladies watch collection from this historical US watch brand.

Taking the form of a luxurious lipstick, it integrates two dials, for keeping track of time in different places.

A cocktail of polished stainless steel and iridescent pink, including a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, makes the Hamilton Lipstick the perfect accessory for modern women faced with multi-tasking challenges. The unusual design also promises to keep a smile on their faces, as well as those of intrigued onlookers.

The first dial of the Hamilton Lipstick forms an integral part of the cylindrical case and is visible at all times. It is shielded by a lightly curved sapphire crystal in a bold shade of pink. A gentle twist of the case reveals the second compact dial, also with two hands. Unlike its cosmetic namesake, the Hamilton lipstick will never find itself lost in the dark depths of a handbag. This timepiece comes equipped with a leather cord to turn it into a necklace, a white leather strap to attach it conveniently to the wrist, and with a white leather belt for it to be fixed on to.

The Hamilton Lipstick even has its own “It-Bag”, a slender white leather pouch-style sleeve with its own special, secure attachment.

The stunning styling of the spectrum of accessories comprised by the Hamilton Lipstick is wrapped in Swiss quality and proven watchmaking expertise. Hamilton has demonstrated it knows what women want since 1908, when the American brand turned heads with its first ladies’ wristwatches, on a scene dominated by masculine pocket watches.

The Hamilton Lipstick presents a vision of the future of feminine timekeeping built on solid and insightful foundations. Dependability comes in the shape of top quality materials, Swiss-made movements and water resistance to 3 bar. The time in the two possible time zones is set easily and discreetly via small valves at the rear of the watch elements. And whereas LBD usually stands for Little Black Dress, the Hamilton interpretation is Little Black Box.

This special packaging, in the form of an elegant black box, offers safe storage for the Hamilton Lipstick, strap, necklace, belt and pouch. The Hamilton Lipstick may be guaranteed not to smudge, but it will make a lasting impression – both on female consumers and the watch sector as a whole.

Hamilton Khaki SkyMaster UTC

A new one from Hamilton to line up with the forthcoming Baselworld – the Khaki Skymaster UTC.

Nice.

I know they’re not super high-end, but I do like Hamilton watches :-)

Here’s their press release.

[Press Release] The Hamilton Khaki SkyMaster UTC pays a direct tribute to the Hamilton chronometers integrating sidereal time, which measured time relative to the motion of the stars around the earth, as opposed to that of the sun. This new trio of timepieces with GMT functionality uses contemporary design and current airport abbreviations to celebrate the impressive voyage that navigational timekeeping has made to modernity.

Today’s watches reflect the heroic achievements of their wartime predecessors, which kept ships on course and out of danger. Their robustness finds expression in a sturdy, 42 mm stainless steel case, an antimagnetic Swiss GMT movement and water resistance to a pressure of up to 30 bar (300 m). The 24 different time zones, set manually via a pusher at 2 o’clock, use the International Air Transport Association (IATA) 3-letter airport codes as reference points. These include more familiar ones such as JFK and LAX, and extend to faraway destinations like Honolulu and Ponta Delgada in the Azores. The elegant combination of yesterday and today secure a place for the Hamilton Khaki SkyMaster UTC in future horological history books – and in the Hamilton “Modern Times” series, inspired by the Charlie Chaplin movie of the same name.

The Hamilton Khaki SkyMaster UTC family clothes its nostalgia in high-tech craftsmanship and boldly modern materials. There is a choice of dial color, between white, silver and cool grey, and easy-to-read digits contrast in either black or white. On the back of the case is a traditional Hamilton crest, together with engraved inscriptions confirming the timepiece’s Swiss origins and the antimagnetic quality of its movement. The broad scope of modern materials is matched by dynamic creativity, with attachments available in a specially developed rubber-backed sailcloth, or in leather resembling that used for craftsmen’s aprons in days gone by. The Hamilton Khaki SkyMaster UTC today’s globetrotters top-rank precision and looks.
