Tag Heuer Carrera Jack Heuer Caliber 17

I seem to be spending the bulk of my time on the road at the moment, which means I am incredibly late to the (birthday) party on this one – my sincere apologies for the inconwenience!

To celebrate the 80th birthday of the legendary Jack Heuer, the brand that partly bears his name has released this special edition Caliber 17 model.

Echoing design element’s from Heuer’s original designs this limited 41mm piece also features his signature on the rear, as well as the Heuer coat of arms.

Impressively, the latter can be traced back to the 15th century!

Tag Heuer Mikrogirder 2000 Concept [Video] [SIHH]

Tag Heuer pulled back the curtain on an incredible new concept (something they’re rather good at at this time of the year!).

The Mikrogirder can measure down to a phenomenal 5/10,000th of a second.  The movement beats at 1,000 Hz – 7,200,000 beats per hour.

Yes, 7,200,000!

If you hold it above your head and activate the chronograph function, the watch doubles as a helicopter.

Check out the video below.

Tag Heuer Mikrograph Wins Watch Of The Year

Tag Heuer’s very impressive Mikrograph has won both Watch of the Year and Ad Campaign of the Year.

Nice one: press release follows.

[Press Release] On 11 November 2011, during the prestigious Watch of the Year evening organized by the Ringier Group in Geneva, TAG Heuer was twice acclaimed by an audience of over 450 personalities from the world of watchmaking and from communications. The Mikrograph, the first chronograph to display one hundredth of a second, thanks to a central hand, was awarded the best watch of the year by the public, whilst the campaign that supported its launch was awarded the Best Campaign prize. Overwhelming recognition for the brand, the only one who had twice the chance to be on the podium.

“I am incredibly proud of my people: those who developed the Mikrograph as well as those who designed the advertising visuals that made it stand out. For such an innovative watch, we needed a campaign that would also break the mould, by dramatically staging the notion of precision in an original and creative manner” declared Jean-Christophe Babin, Tag Heuer’s President and CEO.
Designed, patented, developed and manufactured entirely in the TAG Heuer Haute Horlogerie workshop at La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Carrera Mikrograph 1/100th marks a milestone in the watchmaking industry: thanks to an escapement beating at 50hz, or 360,000 vibrations an hour, its central hand can measure and display time with 100th of a second precision. This is a major TAG Heuer innovation, confirming the brand’s leadership in the mastery of high frequency and the measurement of infinitely small intervals of time.

Mechanical innovation serving ultimate precision has thus been the driver of the development of the Mikrograph. Two limited editions were launched on the market with 150 pieces each, one with a brown central dial and the other in anthracite grey,. To woo the lover of beautiful timepieces, the advertising visuals needed to be as creative, avant-garde and unexpected as the product they were promoting. It was vital to pay tribute to the art of watchmaking and at the same time deliver a simple message : high precision.

And what is more precise than nature itself, so what could be more original than reproducing nature’s ultimate perfection using watch components? Developed with CLM BBDO, the TAG Heuer advertising agency, the campaign won the approval of a jury of communication professionals who were able to appreciate the poetry and refinement of the visuals and grasp the significance of the instant of time represented in that artistic way.

Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Titanium Ruthenium & Ceramic

I had a bit of a perv the other day at one of the very few V4′s currently for sale in Australia.

A V4 is not cheap in anyone’s language – this new Titanium limited edition is around $75,000 if bought overseas for example – but like many things in Australia the cost of picking one up here will cost much more: the model I was examining being $120,000!

Nevertheless, the V4 is definitely one of my favourite Tag Heuer models.

Not sure the missus would appreciate me spending either of those amounts though :-)

Still, we can but dream!

[Press Release] With its super lightness, extraordinary tensile strength, corrosion resistance and ability to withstand extreme temperatures, titanium has become an essential building material in many high-tech industries, including luxury car manufacture, aviation, aeronautics and medicine. High processing costs and demanding know-how keep its usage limited to top-end industries.

TAG Heuer is a pioneer in its use in watchmaking, having mastered its manufacturing challenges. The brand’s Research & Development team has now developed a process enabling the use of Titanium Grade 5, a special alloy used in aircrafts, turbines and surgical implants, in the case construction of its most avant-garde timepiece to date, the Monaco V4 Titanium Ruthenium and Ceramic.

A stunning tribute to the Swiss brand’s 150 years of pioneering innovation, the Monaco V4 Next Generation Titanium Ruthenium and Ceramic is available in an exclusive edition of 200 pieces. The case is more imposing (41mm instead of 39mm) and made of Titanium-Grade 5, with fine-brushed silicon nitride “ceramic” inserts. The inserts visually lighten the squared shape of the watch, and the newly angled planes of the beveled crystal give the watch a more fluid and contemporary profile.

Other titanium components are the hand-applied faceted indexes on the dial, the minute and hour hands, the small second hand at 4 o’clock, the thermo-lacquered crown at 3 o’clock, and the strap’s folding buckle. The strap itself is in ultra-soft, large-scale alligator, with anthracite hand stitching and a rubberized leather lining.

The V4 movement’s avant-garde architecture, visible through the timepiece’s anti-reflective sapphire crystal front and back, remains unchanged (tungsten ingot linear mass, two pairs of barrels in series, set in parallel and linked by belts), but the finishes have been completely revisited, with a high-resistance black ruthenium coating on the back plate and the Côtes de Genève decorated bridges. The beautiful black juxtaposes superbly with the white “V4” and “TAG Heuer” engravings on the dial, and with the patented transmission and rewind white belts, now in high-contrast, high-tech white polymers exclusively developed for the new timepiece.

Tag Heuer Carrera Ring-Master For Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost (Japan Only)

Fans of Formula 1 will love these.

To celebrate the brand’s 150 years association with motor sports, and as a nod to the ‘Professor’ Alain Prost’s return to F1 in an advisory capacity, Tag Heuer are releasing three Japanese market only limited edition Carrera models: the Carrera Ringmaster.

Three variants will be available – differentiated by a coloured inner bezel.

Four time F1 champion Alain Prost’s model (350 pieces) will be made in red.

There’s a 500 piece yellow model for 2008 F1 winner Lewis Hamilton.

And finally, a 500 piece blue model for 2009 champ Jenson Button.

Retail is likely to be around the $5500 mark – provided you can get yourself to Japan to pick one up!

Final word to Professor Prost:

“It is great to be back!” I’ve been a friend of TAG Heuer since my earliest days in F1 and we have worked very closely when I drove for McLaren. It’s a privilege and an honour to be back by being associated with Lewis and Jenson to commemorate their 150 year-long contribution to motor-sports”

TAG Heuer Says ‘TaTa’ To Tiger

Err, yeah – how fickle are the corporate sponsors.

Standing behind Tiger in the depths of his affair scandals was one thing, but TAG Heuer clearly want to back #winners, announcing today that they are ending their relationship with Woods once his current contract comes to an end.

In an ironic twist, TAG Heuer will now sponsor Steve Williams … (I am kidding!)
