Christophe Claret X-Trem-1 [Baselworld 2012]

Not content with creating a casino for your wrist, Christophe Claret moves on to some magic with magnetry and the ‘X-Trem-1′.

X for Experimental
T for Time
R for Research
E for Engineering
M for Mechanism

The two tubes on either side of the watch, used for displaying the time, contain stainless steel balls that are regulated by via tourbillon equipped movement and some clever conversion into magnetic fields.

Stupidly clever! (and very very cool!).

Before we get on to an extensive list of technical specifications, it just remains to say that eight of each variant will be made. And your chances of getting one are about as good as ours.

I.e zero ;-)

Technical Specifications

- Tourbillon rotates once every 60 seconds
- Flying tourbillon inclined at 30° supported by a double ceramic bearing, with cone-shaped pinion transmission

Functions:
- Mystery hours and minutes displayed on each side of the case, with indications provided by hollowed steel spheres moving 23 mm inside two cylindrical sapphire tubes – The metal spheres are driven by magnetic carriages following a surgical silk thread – Reference: SOFSILK
- Seconds displayed on the tourbillon cage

Christophe Claret 21 Blackjack [Video]

It may be only March, but Christope Claret has released further details on what must be a strong contender for watch of the year!

This US$200,000 [approx] beauty will be limited to a run of 21.

The 45mm case is largely titanium, mixed with various combinations of  18K white gold, rose gold or PVD titanium.

The in-house automatic movement has a frequency of 28,800 bph and a power reserve of 72 hours.

So far, so normal, right?  Well the amazing part of this watch is that those card and dice elements you can see in the images aren’t purely for show:  the watch actually let’s you play casino games on it!

From a simple dice game (tucked away under one of four sapphire crystal glasses), to a working roulette wheel on the back of the watch, to a full version of Blackjack (’21′) on the front dial.  With the latter there are a total of 884,736 game play combinations.  The house rules are shown in the dial of the watch – the dealer must hit on 16 and stay on 17.

Playing blackjack is done via pushers on the left of the case. There are pushers to deal, and hit for either the player or the dealer (the watch!). Each time you “hit,” a chiming mechanism using a hammer and gong sounds.

This thing is truly incredible!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s lottery draw!

Christophe Claret Adagio

A new one for the upcoming Baselworld from Swiss manufacturer Christophe Claret.

This beautiful watch is equipped with Calibre SLB88, created entirely in house and composed of 455 parts.

The Adagio features central hour and minute hands, small seconds at 9 o’clock in a window or subdial, depending on the versions; along with a large date at 6 o’clock and a dual time-zone (hours and minutes) display complete with day/night indication in a subdial at 2 o’clock.

The Adagio is also equipped with a minute repeater – striking the hours, quarters and minutes on demand.

This 34 mm-diameter movement is adorned with finely decorated bridges and endowed with a 48-hour power reserve. The crown is also equipped with a security system: when the mainspring is fully wound, a mechanism disconnects the winding stem so as to avoid any potential damage due to excessive tension.
