[Press Release] Skagen Designs, a pioneer in men’s and women’s contemporary watches and accessories has partnered with world-renowned Japanese designer Hiromichi Konno in the development of two special edition timepieces exclusively for BASELWORLD 2011, in Basel Switzerland.

The ability to bring modern ideas and new artistic forms to watch enthusiasts around the world is at the heart of the Skagen Denmark® brand, and the release of these exclusively designed Konno styles is a continuation of that trend.

Konno, a Japanese designer who first honed his craft in Sweden and then London, gained international recognition for the design of his RIN chair. The chair was created for the world famous Danish furniture-as-art company Fritz Hansen, who also counts Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Matthson and Piet Hein among its legendary design alumni. Konno’s Scandinavian design roots, paired with his natural Japanese minimalist sensibilities, made the collaboration between him and the Skagen Denmark brand a natural fit as they both have the same appreciation for natural beauty and technical precision.

This partnership in design has resulted in the release of two immaculate timepieces offering the perfect blend of ingenuity, beauty, and simplicity. For these exclusive styles, natural flowing lines have been forged into slim yet powerful profiles; design elements that are signature themes for Skagen Denmark timepieces.

For men, masculinity is sculpted to near perfection in a timepiece featuring a stainless steel case and links with an eye-catching black dial and 2-hand Japanese movement. Women will be able to experience the elegance of multicultural design with a stainless steel mirror case wrapped in genuine leather. Accentuating the free flow design will be SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals and a 2-hand Japanese movement. Both watches will feature signed case backs by Mr. Konno who will be on-hand at BASELWORLD 2011.

An official unveiling of the watches for Press will be held March 26, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Skagen Denmark booth located in the Hall of Emotions 5.0, Stand C-11 with Hiromichi Konno and Henrik Jorst hosting.
