Hublot King Power Usain Bolt

I’m afraid we’re finishing in pretty much last place with this one, given that it was announced some four weeks ago now.

Travel and other commitments will do that to you :-)

Still, with the Olympics almost upon us, I think it’s relevant, don’t you?

The King Power Usain Bolt is a 48mm limited 250 piece model in black ceramic and titanium PVD.

It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and water resistance to 100 meters.

Movement is the automatic Hublot caliber HUB4100. This has 27 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours.

It’s a nice watch, but it has one fundamental flaw ..

.. it always runs fast! *boom boom*

Hublot Big Bang Magic Gold And Titanium Ferrari

A marriage between Hublot and Ferrari, not known as understated brands, could easily have turned into a horrible car crash (pardon the pun).

Instead, the pieces released so far seem to be finding the right balance between cool and outrageous: exactly where they should be landing. The titanium version of this Big Bang Ferrari is particularly nice: Richard Mille-esque in some ways.

[Press Release] In Italy last November, Hublot and Ferrari announced their partnership that would make the Swiss ‘Maison’ the exclusive watchmaking partner of the Maranello-based Italian automobile manufacturer. This is not a simple agreement for supplying watches, licensing or sponsorship, but truly a 360° partnership that encompasses all key activities pertaining to brand image and sales activities, including production of a “Ferrari Official Watch” and a “Scuderia Ferrari Official Watch” as well as Hublot’s taking on the role of “Ferrari Official Timekeeper”, “Scuderia Ferrari Official Timekeeper” and “Ferrari Challenge Official Timekeeper.”

Announced by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President of Ferrari S.p.A. on the Mugello circuit, where the finals of the Ferrari Challenge are played out to close the Prancing Horse’s racing season, the partnership marked the beginning of a truly collaborative effort on the foundation of shared values. As part of the BaselWorld, the world’s premier event watchmaking and jewellery industry, Hublot has unveil the first watch designed in partnership with Ferrari.

The Big Bang Ferrari marks an evolution the iconic Big Bang design – the first since the watch was launched in 2005 – that fuses style and materials and mechanics in way that uniquely addresses the respective DNA of Hublot and Ferrari: innovation, performance, technology and exclusivity.

The Big Bang Ferrari sports a larger case (45.5 mm in diameter) with a cylindrical bezel that dramatically showcases the movement visible through the sapphire dial. An indexed crown (with Hublot’s ‘H’ logo automatically positioning itself to remain in line) features elongated push buttons, fixed along a rotating axis like the pedals in a car whilst carbon inserts give the case distinctive look. The watch comes with two interchangeable straps with an innovative quick-change system inspired by the safety seatbelt mechanism. The tone on tone stitching is a nod to the signature upholstery craftsmanship typical of Ferrari. The minute counter, whose hands and indices recall a Ferrari dashboard, is positioned at 3 o’clock and complemented by date window in ‘Modena’ yellow. The legendary prancing horse is featured discreetly in relief at 9 o’clock.

The absence of superfluous accessories brings out the fusional and rational aspects of the Big Bang Ferrari’s unique design, a pure expression of the values that characterize the sports spirit of Ferrari and at the same time the inimitable Hublot style.

The UNICO movement can be compared to the best possible engine to power a racing car, and that it was selected, then designed and developed by Hublot to power the Big Bang Ferrari. With no fewer than 330 components, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the column wheel and dual horizontal coupling on the dial side appear in a new constellation reminiscent of Ferrari alloy wheel rims. The timepiece has a 72-hour power reserve, and is water resistant to 100 metres.

Finally, the Big Bang Ferrari incorporates Magic Gold, the product of extensive R&D unveiled barely three months ago. Magic Gold is scratch-resistant 18-carat gold. The innovation and sophistication that went into the Big Bang Ferrari make it a new sign of recognition, different to the core from any watch presented before. This concept has even been extended to the presentation case for each watch – a true showcase inspired by an engine valve support, made from aluminium, with a built-in rotary system.

Hublot $5Million Big Bang [Baselworld 2012]

Things have been a little quiet on the Hublot front since the Dear Leader moved upstairs (no, not that Dear Leader .. our favourite French one).

Thankfully they haven’t completely lost their sense of mad: here’s their perfect-for-global-economic-uncertainty Big Bang special.

$5million worth and featuring 1,282 diamonds – including six stones which are more than three carats each.

Youch!

Apparently it took 17 people more than a year to set all the diamonds on the watch’s white gold bracelet.

Hublot Classic Fusion Extra Thin Skeleton [Baselworld 2012]

If the idea of a Hublot has always appealed but you couldn’t quite get over the ‘King’ size of most models, you may now have no excuses not to pull the trigger (apart from the expense of course!).

With a skeletonized movement of less than 3mm (2.9 to be exact) the ‘Extra Thin’ HUB1300 movement won’t be making its way into the Guinness Book of Records just yet, but it’s definitely thin!  It also provides 90 hours of power reserve.

Hublot haven’t quite given away everything in the size department though – this is Hublot, after all – the case is 45mm in size.  Two material options will be available – titanium (1000 pieces thereof) and ‘King’ gold (500 pieces).

You’ll also get 50 meters water resistance for your hard-earned.

Other than that, no fancy complications – just a seconds hand and the time :-)

Hublot amfAR

[Press Release] New York, NY (February 1, 2012) – Hublot, the luxury Swiss brand which brings the “Art of Fusion” to watchmaking, is proud to present the amfAR New York Gala on February 8, 2012 honoring those who have led the global struggle against HIV/AIDS.

The black-tie benefit, which will be hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker, will feature special performances by Janelle Monáe and Theophilus London.

“We are excited to again join forces with amfAR in the fight against HIV/AIDS”, says Hublot chairman Jean-Claude Biver. “Our first amfAR men’s collection was very well received and we hope that these new women’s designs will bring us one step further in accomplishing the goal of a world without HIV/AIDS”.

To support amfAR’s goal and following the success of the men’s amfAR collection, Hublot has created a second limited edition collection of timepieces for women featuring the foundation’s colors and logo.

It features a black ceramic case, a white mother of pearl dial, and a white gold bezel set with 48 baguette diamonds (it comes also with a steel bezel set with 114 circular diamonds for the non-limited edition).

It houses a self-winding chronograph movement and a white alligator strap sewn on black rubber.

As a commemoration to amfAR, the watch also features the foundation’s colors and logo at the 5 o’clock mark. As with the first collection, part of the proceeds will go to support amfAR.

The evening will feature a gala dinner, live auction, special performances, and honoree tributes.

For this special occasion, Jean-Claude Biver and Hublot are pleased to announce the auction of the first timepiece 000/100 of the new Hublot amfAR collection engraved with the signature of amfAR Founding Chairman Dr. Mathilde Krim.

Say It Isn’t So! Jean-Claude Biver Steps Down As Hublot CEO ..

No!

:-(

Our most fave watch boss, the always smiling / always ready to throw himself into one ridiculous situation or another CEO –  Hublot’s Jean-Claude Biver – is heading ‘upstairs’.

He’s vacating the CEO seat in favour of long-time compatriot Ricardo Guadalupe, formerly the Hublot MD, as of Jan 1st this year.

Biver will retain the role of Chairman in charge of strategy and product (I guess Guadalupe gets the commercial and operational stuff).

Let’s hope we still get to see that cheeky grin as Biver strives to complete his ultimate mission – handing out Big Bang watches to  every celebratory on the planet :-)

Good luck Mr Biver (and of course Mr Guadalupe).

Don’t be a stranger now!

Hublot King Power Unico GMT

I’m going to attempt to use a bit of the quiet holiday period to catch up with some of the backlog of posts I really should have done earlier in the year!

Unsurprisingly, given how many watches they pump out, there are a couple of Hublots on the list.

Thankfully, this one’s a corker, unlike some of their other recent models (**cough**).

The King Power Unico GMT has a rather nice trick up its sleeve – 24 timezones on one dial.

You need to line up the ‘angles’ to see local time around the world, courtesy of the four rotating discs around the bezel.

This is a 48mm piece and will come in either 18k ‘king gold’ or black ceramic.

Both versions have ceramic bezels.

The movement is a Hublot caliber HUB1220 automatic GMT with 72 hours of power reserve.

If you’re keen, this should be out early(ish) 2012.

Not long now! :-)
