Hermès Cape Cod Grandes Heures

[Press Release] The Hermès Cape Cod Grandes Heurs, is an invitation to lengthen your most precious moments and to shorten the most mundane ones. This is reflected by the movement of the hands that accelerate at times or take a more leisurely pace at others.

Everything, from the rectangular case to the finely engine-turned dial with its stylized hourmarkers, is designed to break the monotony of a conventional watch face. While the minutes and seconds on this unusual watch count off the 60 markers at a traditional pace, the hours are quite happy to follow their own schedule. An elegant expression of the passing hours that breaks with all conventional practices and offers a new way of measuring tim

Hermès Arceau Time Suspended (Triple Retrograde)

And still they come :-)

[Press Release] The Hermès Arceau Arceau Time Suspended (Le Temps Suspendu) suspends time without disturbing either its onward march or its precision.

With this world first complication, its owner can forget the present time thanks to an ingenious system of cams, pinions and segments.

This illusion is made possible by an additional module developed in cooperation with Agenhor, Geneva, and its founder Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, a grand specialist of retrograde time indications.

This unconventional complication enables the watch to alternate automatically between real and suspended time, coordinated by two synchronised column wheels, one for the hours, the other for the minutes and date.

Simply pressing the pusher at 9 o’clock brings the hour and minute hands to a halt at noon, while entirely concealing the date hand.

Time is thus suspended – or rather its display, since the mechanism itself continues keeping track of standard time, like an orchestra playing backstage while the protagonists of a play remain motionless.

Two minutes, three hours, five days or several weeks later, whenever you so wish, another press on the pusher repositions the three hands in their rightful place and time, no longer suspended, resumes its steady sweep around the dial.

This concept involves a triple retrograde system including two 360° functions (for the hour and minute hands), and represents an impressive world first duly protected by two patents.

Hermès Arceau Pocket Promenade de Longchamp

Much like mantel clocks, you don’t see so much around new pocket watches nowadays.

Hermès are doing their bit to address that with the Arceau Pocket Promenade de Longchamp – inspired by a wristwatch vision from way back in 1978.

Here’s a bit more from the company themselves:

“The case-back of this unique piece features a motif sculpted from a block of natural mother-of-pearl depicts an equestrian scene using the relief modelling technique: the carriage, horses and protagonists are themselves engraved on two superimposed gold plates. The perspective lines, the various planes and the depth of field, underscored by the third dimension of the creation, instil a distinct sense of life and movement. This motif evokes the central detail of the Promenade de Longchamp silk carré designed by Philippe Ledoux in 1965.

The white gold 43.2 mm case and shimmering grey-blue mother-of-pearl dial radiate a sense of diaphanous harmony that makes a striking contrast with the cord-strap and pouch in matt havana alligator leather.

The mechanical self-winding movement is an exclusive Hermès calibre: H 1928 (the year the company introduced its first watches). Its twin barrel ensures a 55-hour power reserve.”

Hermès Arceau Grande Lune

[Press Release] Designed in 1978 by Henri d’Origny, the Arceau watch is the one of the emblematic models in the brand’s watch collections – and one that is particularly representative of the inimitable style of Hermès, saddle-maker in Paris since 1837.

This year, the brand enriches this collection with a new version.

Echoing the case of the 43 mm chronograph model, the Arceau Grande Lune watch is a complete calendar watch featuring day and month apertures. Its dial is stamped with a herringbone motif identical to that found on saddle rugs.

The stamped and rhodiumed numerals maintain the classic appearance of the original model, with a sloping design that follows the movement of the hands and seems to keep ahead of time.

The broad opening at 6 o’clock highlights the moon disc and its rhodiumed stars specifically designed by Hermès in a deep blue shade. The calendar display indexed around the moon disc is surrounded by a rhodiumed flange, while the snailed motif radiating from the centre of the counter creates a refined sunburst effect. The moonphase module created by Dubois-Dépraz is fitted to a self-winding movement that may be admired through the transparent case-back revealing its circular-grained and snailed finishing adorned with Côtes de Genève.
