Alexander Shorokhoff Lady Avantgarde

Alexander Shorokhoff watches are nothing if not eclectic.

From a tribute to Kostya Tszyu to this, the slightly mad ‘Lady Avantgarde’.

This one’s limited to 500 pieces and was unveiled at the recent Munich watch event.

Other than that, it’s all a little mysterious.

More when we have it :-)

Fortis B-47 Mysterious Planets

Fortis celebrate their one hundred year anniversary next year.

They’re commemorating the event with these limited edition (500 piece) ‘Mysterious Planets’ models.

Available with a blue or black dial these simple looking pieces hide a very cool ‘jumping hour’ movement.

Cool because, as the ‘planets’ rotate around the dial, the jumping hour jumps to appear behind each planet hour by hour (check out the picture if that doesn’t immediately make sense).

The case is stainless steel, with water resistance to 200m.

You can choose a rubber of leather strap and depending on your option you’ll have more or less change from $5500 for one of these.

Ball Fireman Sante Fe Special

Ball produce some really great pieces.

Unfortunately, this isn’t one of them :-) (my opinion only!).

Still, each to their own.

This Fireman Sante Fe Special is a 43mm DLC coated stainless steel piece.

It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2824-2 with 25 jewels.

The watch does have a very impressive 5000g shock resistance (you’d be very dead before the watch was!) and gas-tube luminosity.

Technically it’s not bad then, so why don’t I like it?

Perhaps just my personal taste, but the colours don’t work for me; neither do the fat hands.

What do you think?

Am I missing out on a masterpiece?

Stepan Sarpaneva Korona K3 Routa

I’m not sure whether they’re meant to be fun and friendly, but I find Stepan Sarpaneva’s moonface watches to be more than a little creepy.

And yet, oddly fascinating at the same time.

This one is the Korona K3 Routa (Finnish for ‘frozen ground’ and hence featuring a frosty sparkling of diamonds).

Limited to just five pieces, the Routa is 42mm in size.

Styled by Master Engraver Gilles Meier there are 283 diamonds bead-set into the steel case.

In fact, not just the case, but also the lugs, the crown and even on the buckle of the strap.

The dial features the ‘Little Bear Constellation’ and oxidised sterling silver moon faces.

The rhodium hands are half matt and half polished to ensure readability against the severity of the steel dial.

Movement is a modified and decorated Soprod A10 movement with 42 hours of power reserve.

What do you think?

This one’s not my favourite Sarpaneva model, but it might be fun to let a little scary moon man into your life! ;-)

Angular Momentum Baby Tiger

Our white-gloved friend from Angular Momentum popped up recently in Shanghai, China clutching a model entitled ‘Baby Tiger’.

It features .. yes, a picture of a baby tiger .. beautifully painted on the underside of the crystal.

Apparently this style of “inside the bottle” painting originated way back in the time of the Qing Dynasty.

Lovely jubbly!

AquaDive Watches

New old kids on the block, Aquadive, have announced their first three models: the NOS Vintage Diver, the Bathyscaphe 300 and the Bathyscaphe 100 DLC.

Very nice they are too.

Proving that globalisation is alive and kicking, the watches are designed in the USA, constructed in Switzerland with Swiss ETA movements and cases machined in Germany.

Due to see the light in 2012 this collection is partly made from AquaDive new old stock components (‘NOS’).

The NOS vintage diver case and crystal are AquaDive NOS. The movement and gaskets are new and Swiss made.

The 47mm stainless steel Bathyscaphe 300 is CNC machined off NOS Swiss Made blanks.

The crystal is an AR-coated sapphire, the bezel is ceramic and it features a helium-release valve. It is water resistant to 3,000 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2824-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and features Incabloc shock-protection. MSRP starts at $2,990.

This model is limited to 500 pieces.

The 100 DLC model is a 42mm stainless steel black DLC piece. The crystal is an AR-coated sapphire, the bezel is ceramic and it features a helium-release valve. It is water resistant to 1,000 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2836-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and features Incabloc shock-protection and an ETACHRON regulator. MSRP starts at $1,990.

Officine Autodromo Motoring Watches

They look pretty flash, but Autodromo’s new range of  brushed or PVD-coated stainless steel ‘Motoring Watches’ are a relative snip at just $425.

Made to resemble dashboard dials, they come powered by a Ronda quartz movement.

Find out more at the Autodromo website.

I quite like them. What do you think?

Frederique Constant Maxime Manufacture Lady Chocolate

And all because the lady loves .. Frederique Constant Lady Chocolate …

Of course, this watch isn’t really made of chocolate. That would be rather silly and would make a mess on your nice lady clothes.

This 39mm piece is actually made from stainless steel.   It has an 18-carat rose gold ring that caps the bezel,  which is set with 52 diamonds.

The chocolate (coloured) mother-of-pearl dial features six diamond hour markers, hand applied Arabic numerals, and a central decorated “sunray” guilloché pattern.

A date counter is located at 6 o’clock.

The timepiece is fitted with either a chocolate brown alligator strap or a grey satin strap with a deployant buckle.

Movement is an in-house FC-700 automatic.

Schofield Signalman GMT PR

Schofield are a new watch manufacturer out of the UK and this is their stormingly strong debut: the Signalman GMT PR.

A ‘signalman’ might invoke an image of somebody who works on the railways.

In fact, the watch is a nod to those who worked in a lighthouse (I thought was a ‘lighthouse keeper’, but what do I know?!).

The caseback is engraved to that effect and the power reserve (which I love) is meant to represent the beams of a lighthouse lamp.

The watch is 44mm in size and available in either steel (with polished bezel – 300 pieces) or black DLC coated steel (100 pieces).

In addition to a tiny date display at 3 O’Clock, there’s a GMT sub-dial at six o’clock.

The sapphire crystal covering the two-level dial is domed and extra-thick providing some magnification to the whole display.

Movement is a Swiss Soprod 9335 movement with 31 jewels and 42 hours of power reserve.  It runs at 28800 bph (4hz).

Water resistance is to an impressive 500m.

The watch comes shod with a black shark-skin strap lined with green calf-skin.

Finally, each model is presented in a wooden marine chronometer-styled box with a brass tool for adjusting the GMT dial.

Very cool!

This is a really great debut piece (two pieces I guess) and at around $3000 very keenly priced to boot.

Sorely tempted … ;-)

Graham Silverstone Stowe Racing

Proving that they’re capable of designing watches that are more than simply child-frighteners, Graham presents the ‘friendlier’ Silverstone Stowe Racing.
