Casio Edifice Red Bull Racing Edition

[Press Release] Casio has supported Red Bull Racing – the double Formula One Constructors’ and Drivers’ Champions in both 2010 and 2011 – as an official partner since 2009, recognising that the youthful image and energy of the team, as well as its outstanding technology development capabilities, is a perfect match for EDIFICE’s “speed and intelligence” brand concept.

The EDIFICE line of analogue metal watches evokes Formula 1’s sense of velocity and energy through their design and distinctive watch faces.

The EFR-520RB, which will be available to buy in September 2012, features a 3D Disk Chronograph, Ion plated bezel and a 1/20-second disk-shaped indicator, situated at the 12 o’clock position, which rotates at high speed during stopwatch mode to ensure precise time measurement.

Conveying Red Bull Racing’s image through the use of its trademark colours, the watch incorporates blue highlights on the dial and the lower layer of the bezel, together with a red second hand and red dial marks. The team logo is prominently displayed on the upper half of the dial.

Chopard Classic Racing Superfast Chrono Split Second

Chopard have added a split seconds timer to their Racing Superfast range, in a 1000 model special edition.

The split seconds function (aka ‘Rattrapante’) effectively has two seconds hands.

You can stop them independently of each other, enabling recording of an intermediate (split) time.

When released, the split seconds hand catches up with the main chrono hand, and you can start all over again.

The movement to enable this magic is a COSC certified automatic chronograph, with a power reserve of 42 hours.

The watch itself comes on a 45mm blackened DLC case.

You also get moulded rubber pushers – red for the split seconds – a vintage steering wheel emblem on the crown and ‘wheel-nut’ screws on the bezel.

It comes shod with a Dunlop tyre style rubber strap.

V. cool!

Tag Heuer Monaco Twenty Four Racing Calibre 36

Ooh, yeah baby – I do like this :-)

Given the chances of getting your hands on a Mikrotimer are close to zero, how about a groovy new Monaco variant instead?

The 40.5mm stainless steel case holds a Calibre 36 movement (El Primero base), suspended between four shock-absorbing arms in each corner.

The oversized ’24′ continues a trend of paying homage to the famous Le Mans 24 hour race.

Priced at $15,000 this isn’t the cheapest Tag Heuer on the planet by a long shot, but it is very very (very) nice ;-)

The case is in stainless steel, or in 18kt rose gold (limited edition of 500 pieces) and measures 49mm. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters.

Tissot Racing-Touch

The Tissot T-Touch has long been one of my favourite Tissot models (tell me that demonstrating the compass still doesn’t impress ;-) ).

I rushed out and bought one as soon as they landed in London back in .. ooh.  Late 90s?  Early 2000s?

Anyway, enough about me!

Tissot have continued to issue new models of the Touch most years since that launch, and 2011 sees the arrival of the ‘Racing Touch’.

For the first time the Touch gets a rotating dive style bezel.  It also drops the atmospheric pressure (meteo) function in favour of a tide function. Meh.

The watch also feature a “Lap” function to supplement the Chronograph (now placed at 3 o’clock). The LCD screen part of the dial is totally curved on the bottom, which is a nice touch.

Powered by a Swiss ETA quartz, and with a water resistance to 100m, there are bound to be various case/strap styles, as per previous models.

My old faithful v1.0 is still running perfectly (albeit with a few scratches now), but if it ever were to come to grief I’d definitely look to replace it, and I’m glad to see Tissot continue to evolve this great geek icon ;-)
